![]() He wields a big sword and as a Knight of the Dark Glyphs, he has the ability to "sacrifice stray souls to summon unearthly force", which in this case translates to summoning monsters to fight for him. Sieg Wahrheit is our fire-haired anime protagonist and is stereotypically stoic in nature. Let's meet our colorful cast of characters: There is a Hard mode, but the main difference is dying in one hit versus two or three (plus in hard mode you can't grind experience at all until you beat Stage 9). For example, you might get an attack power bonus or you might be able to increase the number of Legionnaires you can spawn.Īlso, the music in this game is fantastic and it is very hard! This was a time when Capcom thought that the Japanese versions of games were too easy for us Westerners so they decided to give all of the enemies and bosses extra life bars, increase their damage output, decrease the player's defense, remove some of the stat bonus items, and increase the experience values to level up your Legions anywhere from 2 to 5 times! For this reason, this LP will be played on Normal mode. By slaying monsters, you gain experience and can use that experience to grow the Legions' abilities - some are passive, some legion specific. That you can only take two such legions into any level is where the strategy comes in. The main gimmick for Chaos Legion is the ability to summon and control a small handful of creatures called Legions that can attack for you and also offer various stat bonuses and special moves. As an aside, Ubukata also did Le Chevalier D'eon, which is a pretty good anime that can be viewed on Netflix Instant. I'd be interested if anyone can find a plot summary, because the story in the game isn't exactly riveting (the translation doesn't help). The story is based off of a series of seven novels by Tow Ubukata called, unsurprisingly, Chaos Legion. This is not true at all! This game offers a unique strategy element that I feel sets it apart from other third-person action games. Chaos Legion came out the same year as Devil May Cry 2, and was generally viewed as a DMC ripoff. The game, upon release, was pretty much critically panned due to the game's extremely high difficulty and superficial similarities to Devil May Cry. And you can always revisit completed levels, both to refine more-graceful approaches and to gain experience points for legion upgrades-which, for me, ranks high on this game’s long list of ingenious features.Chaos Legion is a third-person character action game from Capcom released in August of 2003. Luckily, this inherent complexity is more rewarding than frustrating-spearheading your phalanx is always fun, even though enduring the pandemonium is the most you can hope for at times. ![]() Yet because you do all this while controlling your own character, in reality, you’d need the dexterity of Star Trek’s Data to consistently carry out all your calculations. Factor in artillery and protective units and the potential for strategy is staggering. Some of your minions specialize in combating mechanical creatures, while others fare better against flesh and blood- so to eviscerate the opposition, you’ll need to plan accordingly. Commanding an entourage of supernatural soldiers is heady but fulfilling work. ![]() But in reality, it plays like a tactical strategy game that places you in near-complete control of units rather than having you issue orders with icons and cursors. At first glance, Chaos Legion looks suspiciously like its hack-and-slash Capcom cousin, Devil May Cry.
